IMS/ Dry needling is a therapeutic treatment technique using acupuncture needles to release trigger points and restore normal length and function of your muscle.
Tight muscles can lead to poor movement patterns, poor posture and pain. IMS/dry needling is a technique used to release these specific taut muscle bands which are holding certain parts of your body in poor alignment.

Book a 40 min initial assessment without delay to determine treatment options.

Penetration of a normal muscle is painless; however, a shortened, supersensitive muscle will ‘grasp’ the needle in what can be described as a cramping sensation. The result is threefold.

1) A stretch receptor in the muscle is stimulated, producing a reflex relaxation and lengthening of the muscle.

2) The needle also causes a small injury that draws blood to the area, initiating the natural healing process.

3) The treatment creates an electrical potential in the muscle to make the nerve function normally again.
Supersensitive areas can be desensitized, and shortened muscles can be released.  At the workshop Performance clinic our physiotherapists always use DN/ IMS in conjunction with manual therapy and movement training to help restore posture, correct movement patterns ultimately decreasing your pain.
